BIO

Shannon Shay Rose was the first of three dynamic siblings to artistic mom and dad, Kimberly and Gary Yon, in Pittsburgh, PA on May 13, 1986.  She grew up in the city and suburbs of Pittsburgh and attended North Allegheny High School graduating in the year 2004.  Following her interest and drive in the arts and athletics, she was recruited by Penn State's Women's Track and Field team for high jump, and entered the Arts Education undergraduate program.

In December 2008, Shay graduated with a BS in arts education and competed in 4 years of division 1 track and field.  In August 2009, she was offered an art teaching position in a K-5 Pittsburgh Public School.   After her first year at the K-5 school, Shay moved to teaching K-8 for one year, and now has found herself teaching her third year at Pittsburgh Brashear High School teaching Ceramics and Fiber Arts.  Along with teaching visual arts, she is an assistant coach for North Allegheny High School and Middle Schools, specifically coaching the jumps. 

 

In the summers of 2011, 2012, and 2013, Shay attended the NYU Steinhardt MA Graduate program, taking place in Venice, Berlin, and New York.  Her body of work has maintained the same theme of movement and action over the course of three years reflecting the lifestyle Shay lives and breathes in each day.
